This is for the Hurakan Book Cover Challenge over at Artorder, a blog ran by a Wizard's of the Coast Art Director, pretty cool site. Hurakan is some sort of Mayan God of destruction, yah get the idea from the name I think. I figured it would be cool to have another character with him as if the books about some kid who wants to be some great warrior, yada yada, and gets mixed up with a God that likely takes him down a destructive path.
These illustrations I worked on over the last few months. The characters in them are from the first animated project I worked on about 10 years ago, they're loosely based on those characters. Since turning 30, I've been reflecting somewhat on the early years of my career, so I explored that in these illustrations. Also I'm trying to find ( like everyone ) my own look, cha, cha, cha.
Some Great Spirit concepts(Raventales character, suppose to be God, the Creator), I'd like to redesign this guy, get him modeled again with a little more time. The last image, I was thinking there's always this black stuff bleeding into the sky wherever he goes and if he where grey it'd make him strange, the opposite of natural, I think, likely we won't remake him so whatever.
